In the birthday project, the EAST students take pictures of students that have their birthday in that month. First, we start with a list of names of the students that we are going to take pictures of. Then we go out and take 2 photos of each of the students. After that, we go back to the EAST classroom and edit and print the picture using HP Photo Printing Software. We also make cards to go with the picture and we use Print-master Software. Then we put all of it together and another person gets to deliver the card. When that person delivers the card, she or he says happy birthday to the person that has the birthday. Each grade has a different design on their birthday card, so if you are in kindergarten you get some fun little drawings but when you are in fourth grade you get only one drawing on your birthday card. We also give them to our teachers, staff members, and school board members.
We also do phone messages to the using our SchoolReach program. A group of students in EAST @ Gardner record a message and our facilitator, Mr. Miller, helps get the calls set up on our school's calling system. It is really cool to get a call from school on your birthday!
